Torvald has power, due to his new position at the bank. He brings his work home because he has a office at home. Torvald treats Nora as his "trophy wife" treating her like a child and telling her not to eat her favorite macroons. He cares what people think about him and wants to be respected. That is one of the reasons why he fires Krogstad, although his wife is the one who keeps the secrets from him and did the bad things in the past.
